Broking Lead/Director (Cayman Islands)

About the role

Our client, one of the world’s largest global insurance brokers, is seeking a Director and Lead of its broking team in the Cayman Islands.

​

The successful candidate will lead the team and broking strategy and report directly to the managing director of the Cayman firm.

​

This role requires a seasoned leader with strong technical expertise in property & Casualty (“P&C”) iinsurance, exceptional relationship management skills, and a track record of delivering profitable growth in a regulated, client-focused environment.

 This is an office-based role in the Cayman Islands (relocation assistance is provided)

Responsibilities include:

Business Leadership

  • Drive the growth of P&C and Employee Benefits lines (prior EB experience is not required), ensuring profitability, sustainability, and market competitiveness.

  • Monitor and respond to market trends, client needs, and regulatory changes to maintain a leading market position.

  • Deliver products and services in line with agreed strategy, objectives and targets.

  • Ensure broking practices undertaken and colleague conduct is aligned with legal and regulatory requirements, and consistent with the firm’s policies, values and behaviours.

  • Provide clients with market insight communications on a regular basis.

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the Cayman/international insurance broking industry and associated trends.

  • Represent the firm in the Cayman Insurance Association.

  • Drive the development of tailored program/product/facility offerings.

  • Oversee wholesale partner relationships and joint placements. 

  • Ensure the firm’s continued compliance and good standing with the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority.

 

Portfolio and Client Management

  • Manage and grow a personal portfolio of key clients, delivering tailored insurance solutions and maintaining high client retention levels.

  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to clients on complex risks and insurance needs, ensuring excellent service and value delivery.

  • Lead high-level client meetings and negotiations, ensuring alignment with the company’s client service standards.

  • Identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities to enhance client value and profitability.

 

People Leadership

  • Lead the firm by example across client and new business broking.

  • Foster a culture of performance, collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development.

  • Ensure appropriate recruitment, training, and succession planning strategies are in place to support long-term growth.

  • Ensure best practice and innovation is fully disseminated and shared across all client servicing teams.

  • Motivate and develop your team towards the accomplishment of business goals and objectives, as well as their own personal career development.

 

Proposition and Product Development

  • Drive strategy for program solutions/facilities and their utilisation.

  • Identification and execution of proposition/product development opportunities.

 

Compliance with regulatory requirements and business procedures

  • Ensure the function is supervising and maintaining standards of business conduct consistent with legislative & regulatory requirements.

  • Act as director (regulatory approval required).

  • Commercial acumen and negotiation capabilities.

The requirements

  • Professional insurance qualifications such as ACII, CPCU, state/local licence or equivalent are highly preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred but not essential).

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in insurance broking with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role, ideally within a PLC or large regional brokerage. 

  • Strong technical property (CAT and construction an advantage) & casualty product knowledge and market (including London wholesale) knowledge.

  • Strong property and casualty programs & facilities knowledge/experience

  • Experience managing P&L accountability with a demonstrable record of achieving growth and profitability targets.

  • Proven track record in leading, motivating and supporting a successful broking team.

  • Proven interpersonal skills capable of dealing with multinational and global clients, business stakeholders and external bodies.

Not essential:

  • Health insurance/employee benefits product and market knowledge (strong P&C knowledge is, however, essential).

  • Knowledge of the Caribbean/Cayman insurance market.

  • Background in regulated environments with CIMA or similar regulatory frameworks would be an advantage, but not essential.

Compensation and benefits

A competitive remuneration package that is commensurate with qualifications and experience and paid tax free, relocation and work permit package (if required), a comprehensive medical scheme, pension plan (in line with Cayman Islands Labour Law), amongst other benefits.
